Food Service FAQ's
Q: Why is Wilmot Union High School not in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)?
A: In May 2014, the Board of Education, following the recommendation of our food service management company, Taher, opted out of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The logic behind this decision was based primarily on the manner in which our students were purchasing their meals. Simply put, the food combinations that our students chose, would not be considered to be a reimbursable meal by the USDA. This also allowed our students to purchase only what they would eat and not pay for items that would end up in the trash. Additionally, in the NSLP program, components are weighed out and students are not allowed to have more than the weighed amount. There was concern that students were not receiving enough to keep them full throughout the school day. By opting out of the program, it allowed Wilmot Union High School to offer a wider variety of options with larger portion sizes to our students.
Q: Is Wilmot Union High School the only high school not taking part in the NSLP?
A: No. Many schools do not participate in the NSLP. Locally, Westosha Central, Union Grove, and Waterford Union have also opted out of participation.
Q: Are there still free/reduced-price options for students at Wilmot Union High School?
A: Yes! Wilmot Union High School is proud to offer many options to our students that are eligible for free and reduced-priced meals. Students that qualify for free and reduced meals are offered most of the same items than those students that do not qualify. There is a “cheat sheet” available on our website that shows what is available to free and reduced students. We also continue to offer free milk to all students through the USDA Special Milk Program. This program is available to schools that are not in the NSLP program. It allows students to take unlimited servings of cartons of milk at zero cost.
Q: Can students carry a negative balance?
A: It is the policy of Wilmot Union High School that students may carry a balance up to $15.00 negative. Students that do not qualify for free and reduced meals will need to keep their account below this amount in order to purchase food. Students that do qualify for free and reduced meals will be allowed to purchase an entrée and milk if they exceed the allowed negative balance. If a situation arises where your student cannot purchase lunch, please direct them to our Food Service Director.
Q: Where do I make payments on my student’s account?
A: Payments can be made through RevTrak online anytime. Payments can also be dropped into the payment box located outside the cafeteria. Payments must be dropped by 9am in order to be processed that day.
