| Freshman S.A.N.D. Program | The Freshman S.A.N.D. Program is an early intervention and failure prevention program for a small group of incoming freshmen students identified as at-risk and who may need extra support transitioning to the high school setting. Students receive instruction as a group from content area teachers in the required Freshmen core academic subjects: Biology, Math, Civics, and English. The remaining class periods are one elective class, Phy. Ed/Health, and two structured study periods for additional academic support; one period is a Freshman Link Crew Study Hall and the other is a Study Skills class. The study periods allow time for students to finish homework assignments and receive additional tutoring, study skills instruction, and cooperative learning exercises. Participating students are selected on the basis of standardized scores, report card grades, and teacher recommendations. Parents may also request consideration for their student. Final selection is made by the Wilmot Union High School Student Services Committee. | Top | |
| S.A.N.D. 10-12 Program | The S.A.N.D. 10-12 program targets Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students who would benefit from extra academic support and/or are credit deficient. The program provides direct instruction for 10th – 12th grade students in Math and English. Students are also scheduled in a resource period with a SAND instructor. During this resource time students receive support in their classes taken outside of the S.A.N.D. program or work on Individual Credit Recovery (ICR) through the PLATO curriculum. Students can apply for enrollment in the S.A.N.D. Program, and parents and staff can refer a student to be considered for the program. Please see your school counselor for more detailed information. | Top | |
