Mr. Haas has worked at Wilmot for 38 years. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from UW-Madison. Mr. Haas also directs the Sgt. Peppers program. He has won the 1993 Wisconsin High School Teacher of the Year, the 1992 Kohl Fellowship, the 2002 Tikalski Award, and also has a degree in English. Mr. Haas's favorite part about teaching at Wilmot High School is the students. His favorite sport is scuba diving.		 Top

Beginning Band or Orchestra, (MUS101)
Prerequisite: None
Credits: 0.50
Grades: 9-11		 A class for beginning or those who need additional preparation. Freshman band players will be assigned Red & White Band second semester. Grades 10 and 11 band players will be assigned Panther Band second semester. All string players will be assigned Orchestra second semester. Please note: Guitar and piano are not offered in this class. Top
Understanding Music, (MUS102)
Prerequisite: None
Credits: 0.50
Grades: 9-12		 A semester course designed to give the student an understanding of all styles of music, both vocal and instrumental. Periods studied include classical, baroque, romantic, modern and jazz. Other topics studied include musical theater, famous composers, and instruments of the orchestra. Top
Percussion Ensemble, (MUS 104)
Prerequisite: Membership in a band class second semester.
Credits: 0.50
Grades: 9-12		 All band members who play percussion must take this class first semester. This ensemble is the marching percussion section for the Guardsmen, and will perform with the concert band at the Winter Concert. Top
Red & White Concert Band, (MUS201)
Prerequisite: Previous band experience at the primary level is required.

Grades: 9-12		 Class open to students 9-12 who play a musical instrument. This class will be combined with the Wind Ensemble to form the Marching Band 1st quarter. Top
Panther Concert Band, (MUS202)
Prerequisite: Previous band experience at the primary level is required.

Grades: 9-12		 Class open to students 9-12 who play a musical instrument. This class will be combined with the Wind Ensemble to form the Marching Band 1st semester. Top
Orchestra, (MUS203)
Prerequisite: Previous experience playing a string instrument, consent of the instructor.

Grades: 9-12		 This course is open to all students 9-12 who play violin, viola, cello or bass. Music studied will be for string orchestra. Additionally, the class will be combined with students from the Wind Ensemble to form a larger symphonic group. Top
Concert Choir, (MUS204)
Prerequisite: This course is open to all students of various skill level with consent of instructor.

Grades: 9-12		 Concert choir is a performance based ensemble open to both male and female students interested in singing. Repertoire of vast varieties will be performed: classical to popular music. The Choir competes at the local level. Top
Honors Wind Ensemble, (MUS301)
Prerequisite: Seated audition, consent of the instructor.
Credits: 1.00
Grades: 9-12		 Advanced band class. Students will be placed in this class based on seating auditions score. This course will be combined with Concert Bands to form the Marching Band 1st semester. Top
Small Pop Ensemble, (MUS302)
Prerequisite: The ability to read music and consent of the instructor.
Credits: 0.50
Grades: 11-12		 A full year course that meets every other day, for the highly motivated music student. Instruction in the techniques involved in any small popular group will be covered, with emphasis on improvisation. Instruction in the theories of writing music for the student who wishes to major in music at the college level. This class meets opposite Theater Tech. so both can be taken if desired. Top
Jazz Ensemble, (MUS303)
Prerequisite: Junior or Senior status and enrolled in Concert Band, Wind Ensemble or Orchestra, consent of the instructor. A/B schedule opposite Jazz History/Theory.

Grades: 10-12		 A performance based class; four concerts each year including hosting the Spring Jazz Festival. The history of Jazz will also be studied. Top
Treble Choir, (MUS304)
Prerequisite: Audition and consent of instructor.
Credits: 1.00
Grades: 9-12		 Treble Choir is a specialized ensemble for females, focused on superior performance and will compete at the local, state and national levels. The purpose of this choir is to further develop professionalism, musicianship and vocal mastery to the fullest potential. Top
Vocal Ensemble, (MUS305)
Prerequisite: Audition and consent of the instructor.

Grades: 9-12		 Vocal Ensemble is the most advanced performance based choir. This ensemble studies a vast range of music from Renaissance to Contemporary. Along with performing at various locations, the Vocal Ensemble competes at the local, state and national level. Top
Theater Technology, (MUS306)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor.
Credits: 0.50
Grades: 10-12		 A year long class that meets every other day. The students will work with sound reinforcement, staging, lighting and set design. This course requires after school participation. Top
Jazz History/Theory, (MUS307)
Prerequisite: Any student enrolled in Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, or Orchestra, consent of the instructor. A/B schedule opposite Jazz Ensemble.

Grades: 11-12		 This course consists of an in-depth study of Jazz History and music theory as applied to Jazz improvisation. Students will work in a laboratory setting to improve their improvisation skills. Top
